Herbal Medicine Extraction

Chinese medicine is the general name for traditional Chinese herbals. Plants are the main source of Chinese medicine and are most commonly used. The application of Chinese herbal medicine has been continuously developed along with the advancement of society, from direct taking or applying herbs to decoctions, ointment pills, decoction pieces, etc. Among them, Chinese herbal extracts have been used as an emerging raw material for traditional Chinese medicine in the Chinese medicine industry chain. Traditionally, the extraction of the active ingredients of Chinese herbal medicines has mainly been achieved by organic solvents or high-temperature heating, but such methods are likely to cause damage to the active ingredients. SoniMixer can keep the sample at a low temperature during the extraction process, so that the biological activity of active ingredient will not be destroyed by the ultrasonic treatment. BCA technology can also achieve the desired extraction result without adding chemical extraction co-solvent.

Applications

The β-hexosaminidase assay (upper picture) shows that β-hexosaminidase releasing to comparison the inhibition ability of active component to β-hexosaminidase in different extraction method.

The β-hexosaminidase release, which extraction by sonimixer was decrease around 70% than mock and 8% lower with hot water (traditional method) extraction method, which means the active component extraction by sonimixer was more efficiency than traditional method to inhibit β-hexosaminidase release.
